Time only
Simply tells the time and nothing else. Hours, minutes, and seconds.
Date
Displays the current numeric date of the month on the watch dial, usually through a window or sub-dial.
Chronograph
Functions as a stopwatch, recording the time using one or more sub-dials and typically an additional seconds hand that can be operated with pushers.
Day Date
Shows both the day of the week and the date, typically through two separate windows on the watch dial.
Moonphase
Presents the current phase of the moon, usually in a semicircular window, ranging from new moon to full moon and back.
GMT / Dual Time
Shows a second time zone, usually using an additional hour hand that points to a separate 24 hour time scale on the dial or bezel.
Jump Hour
Displays the hour through a numeral that jumps precisely at the top of each hour, replacing the traditional rotating hour hand.
Perpetual Calendar
Displays the date, month, and often the day of the week and year, automatically adjusting for the varying lengths of months and leap years.
Split Second
Features two chronograph hands, one can be stopped while the other is running, allowing the timing of multiple events.
Day / Night Indication
Represents the 24-hour cycle, distinguishing between day and night, usually in a sub-dial or section of the watch that changes design or color.
Annual Calendar
Displays the month, date and often the day of the week using small windows on the dial and/or with a pointer hand.
Triple Calendar
Displays the month, date and often the day of the week using small windows on the dial and/or with a pointer hand. It does this while keeping track of the length of each month.
Alarm
Emits a sound at a set time, usually set with additional crowns or buttons using sub-dials, windows or additional hands to show the setting.
Flyback
Allows the chronograph function to be reset to zero and immediately restarted with a single push of a button.
Power Reserve
Indicates how long the watch will run before it needs to be wound again, usually displayed on a gauge or sub-dial on the watch dial or caseback.
World Time
Displays the time in many time zones around the world simultaneously, usually using a rotating dial or bezel labeled with location names.
Regatta timer
A countdown timer designed to help time intervals precisely, often used in events or competitions with staggered starts.
Minute repeater
A complication that chime the time on demand, typically by pressing a button or slider.
Equation of Time
Displays the difference between mean solar time (clock time) and true solar time (based on the position of the sun).
Tourbillon
A rotating cage that holds the escapement and balance wheel, designed to counteract the effects of gravity on the movement's accuracy.
