What is a Full Service?

Your watch will receive a full mechanical overhaul: cleaned, oiled, and all worn parts replaced, and rigorously tested.

Updated over 3 months ago

A Full Service returns the mechanical parts of the watch to their original condition and performance level as much as is reasonably possible.

A full service includes:

  • Dismantling of the full watch, including movement

  • Cleaning of the case and bracelet

  • Cleaning and oiling of all movement components

  • Adjustment of movement components to return performance to factory specifications as much as is reasonably possible, vintage watches cannot always be returned to factory specifications due to wear, manufacturing quality variance and age

  • Replacement of all worn components and consumables (ex. seals, gaskets, oscillating weight bearings, barrels and reversers)

  • Replacement of battery (if applicable)

  • Water resistance renewal and testing (includes replacement of gaskets)

  • Regulation of movement

  • Final control to bring into factory spec

  • Reassembly of watch and movement

  • Adjustment of the clasp

  • Note: Watches that arrive in multiple pieces will fall under the full service scope only if they are able to be put back together without requiring additional parts other than those that are normally replaced in a full service

A standard full service does not include (though we can usually perform these services for an additional cost):

  • Polishing

  • Replacement of major/special parts or non wear items

  • Repair of water, crush or shock damage

  • Dial or hand repair

  • Dent or ding repair or any other repair that requires the addition of metal

Limitations of a full service:

  • A full service cannot make a watch “better than new”

  • A full service will not address design flaws in the underlying watch

  • A full service does not guarantee “perfect” timekeeping as all watches have a certain degree of expected variance from “perfect” timekeeping

Vintage watches cannot always be returned to “like new” state because of design or manufacturing inconsistencies or the effects of aging, however we always strive to get the watch as close to factory specifications as is possible.

Should a part be unsalvageable or not functioning properly, replacement parts will be added. Some watches may require parts to be ordered from the manufacturer. In this case, we will update you throughout the process.
